Ways individuals with APD learn to cope with their disorder. Contrary to popular belief, this disorder is treatable.
Treatment is difficult. People suffering from APD rarely seek treatment on their own. There are no “pills” to cure the disorder. Behavioral treatment can involve rewarding the patients appropriate behavior and punishing them for inappropriate behavior. Many only seek medical help if they are court-ordered to do so. If therapy is sought psychotherapy and talk therapy is suggested. Medications that control irritability may be used for patients to cope with their symptoms. Drugs that are likely to be abused are more often than not avoided. No way to prevent the disorder, however, if signs are spotted during early childhood then the necessary therapy and treatment should be administered.
