In many cultures, people with APD are considered to be dangerous. They live on the edge, and take orders from no one. Most of these cultures are westernized, therefore they have modern technology at their disposal to be able to diagnose such disorders as APD. “Western cultures are largely individualist, encouraging people to be independent, autonomous, and to strive for personal goals. Other cultures are more collectivistic, encouraging interdependent and cooperative behaviors. “(Mulder, 2012) Many people assume individuals with APD also formerly known as socio/psychopathy are all ruthless serial killers. This is not true. Murder is only the most serious and rare cases. Many individuals with APD either do not know they have APD or are very good at disguising their disorder with their superficial charm and wit. They may lie or deny having characteristics. However, many people with APD engage in criminal or malicious behavior. Over time as more research and recognition is given to this disorder it becomes easier to treat and acknowledge for both the individual with APD and people such as friends and family of the individual.
